Restaurant Industry Projected to Surpass National Job Growth Rate in 2012

The restaurant industry is predicted to continue to expand in 2012, based upon a report by the National Restaurant Association's in the 2012 Restaurant Industry Forecast . 

 Restaurant industry sales are expected to reach $632 billion in 2012 - a 3.5 percent increase over 2011 representing record growth. Overall restaurant industry employment is projected to reach 12.9 million in 2012, representing 10 percent of the total U.S. workforce. In 2012, the National Restaurant Association predicts the industry to add jobs at a 2.3 percent rate, a full percentage point above the projected 1.3 percent gain in total U.S. employment. Franchise operated limited service or fast food restaurants account for 59% of all U.S. restaurants in this sector.  Read more
