Franchisee Bill of Rights Effort Continues

Chris Schmitz, president of the Meineke Dealers Association, reported that the representatives will meet with the franchisor to discuss a possible endorsement of the Franchisee Bill of Rights, which 11 franchisee associations have ratified. If the bill is recognized by Meinke it would be the first by any franchisor. In an article by Deborah M. Todd, in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Schmitz said if franchisors are generally dismissive of the effort, the organization will lobby for state or federal legislation to adopt its provisions. In a previous blog pertaining to the Franchisee Bill of Rights, I predicted that there is a shift on the part of many franchisee associations to push for more balanced franchise contracts.
